You Don't Need A Bible To Know Abortion Is Wrong. Sanctity of Human Life Sunday 2017

In broader culture, opposition to abortion is often spoken of as purely a religious view.  But is this accurate? As Christians, if we oppose abortion are we expecting unbelievers to follow Christian religious rules? Is this like Catholic rules on birth control or Jehovah's Witness beliefs about blood transfusions?  In this message we look at the idea that the Law is written on the heart. From this we can see a number of reasons why it is obvious that abortion is wrong. There are numerous secular reasons for the pro-life position and this message summarizes these and explores some implications.

Deacon Ordination Sermon

What are deacons? How do they relate to the purpose of the church? How do we face the obstacles and temptations to be diverted from the mission?

Acts 6:1-11

"Now in these days when the disciples were increasing in number, a complaint by the Hellenists arose against the Hebrews because their widows were being neglected in the daily distribution. 2 And the twelve summoned the full number of the disciples and said, “It is not right that we should give up preaching the word of God to serve tables. 3 Therefore, brothers, pick out from among you seven men of good repute, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we will appoint to this duty. 4 But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word.” 5 And what they said pleased the whole gathering, and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolaus, a proselyte of Antioch. 6 These they set before the apostles, and they prayed and laid their hands on them.

7 And the word of God continued to increase, and the number of the disciples multiplied greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests became obedient to the faith.

Life is Short- New Years 2017

We are all tempted to ignore or abuse the transience of life. Here are some reflections from Moses in Psalm 90 on the shortness of life and what it means. Happy New Year!

Psalm 90

1     Lord, you have been our dwelling place in all generations.

2     Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world,

from everlasting to everlasting you are God.

3     You return man to dust and say, “Return, O children of man!”

4     For a thousand years in your sight are but as yesterday when it is past, or as a watch in the night.

5     You sweep them away as with a flood; they are like a dream, like grass that is renewed in the morning:

6     in the morning it flourishes and is renewed; in the evening it fades and withers.

7     For we are brought to an end by your anger; by your wrath we are dismayed.

8     You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence.

9     For all our days pass away under your wrath; we bring our years to an end like a sigh.

10     The years of our life are seventy, or even by reason of strength eighty;  yet their span is but toil and trouble; they are soon gone, and we fly away.

11     Who considers the power of your anger, and your wrath according to the fear of you?

12     So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.

13     Return, O Lord! How long? Have pity on your servants!

14     Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.

15     Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us, and for as many years as we have seen evil.

16     Let your work be shown to your servants, and your glorious power to their children.

17     Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands upon us; yes, establish the work of our hands!
