The Gospel?
Jesus Taught his followers through stories called parables. Luke 15 has a parable that teaches us about the Gospel.
Now the tax collectors and sinners were all drawing near to hear him. And the Pharisees and the scribes grumbled, saying, "This man receives sinners and eats with them." So he told them this parable: "What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open country, and go after the one that is lost, until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, 'Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep that was lost.' Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.
The Gospel is good news because in it we learn that God loves us so much that He's willing to come to earth and do whatever it takes to save his people. We disobey God through our actions, thoughts, and motives (the Bible calls this Sin), and there are consequences that come with disobedience. Just like a criminal in court we're guilty, and we need someone to save us from our sentence. Jesus is our savior because he came and was executed on a cross in our place so that we can be innocent before God. 3 days later Jesus rose from the dead to show his triumph over death and God's complete acceptance of this payment. That's the good news of the Bible. This even 2000 years ago changes lives, and restores relationship with God.
The Gospel is more than just the message that people believe when they first become Christians, it is the ongoing diet that every child of God needs in order to grow as a believer.
